PC: True Love Ft. K-Flo (Single Review)

“Do you believe in True Love”?

This sultry slow tempo single, “True Love” by Colorado’s very own PC is sure to leave everyone wanting to hear more from his album Philosophy Class.  This sexy single features the melodic voice of K-Flo followed up by PC’s smooth flows.  This unique collaboration of Rap and R&B will leave people asking themselves, do they believe in true love?

PC can make his music relate to every day situations that people experience with life and love.  The most intriguing aspect to “True Love” is that PC slowed the track down and paid homage to the underground Hip-Hop style of chopped and screwed.  Once the beat dropped K-Flo comes back with intensity in her voice that makes people stop everything to just listen.

I am impressed with the direction PC is going as an artist.  Immediately after listening to this track I wanted to know more about him as an overall entertainer.  PC brings a refreshing sound to the Hip-Hop scene of Colorado.  MileHI Music looks forward to hearing more music from PC.

Top 12 Ways To Promote Your Music

First off, let’s be realistic, not all music is good music, so the results may vary for those who have not quite honed your craft. However, if you have the ambition and the know-how, you can take your career to new heights with less effort than you think. For those of you who with raw talent, your music just needs to be heard by as many people as possible, and the rest will be history. To help you out on your journey of taking over the music industry we’ve compiled a list of what we think are the top 12 ways to promote your music. If you think we’re missing something please feel free to comment below. Enjoy, and good luck!

*In no particular order*

1. Ask your friends to help promote your songs via social media.
We all have those people who say they support us; if that’s the case it’s time for you to initiate a roll call. Find at least ten (10) friends who really support you and ask them to commit to sharing your music on a designated interval. Even with just 7 people you can designate one day of the week for each person to share your music on Facebook or Twitter. That way you have all 7 days of the week covered. If each of those people share your music with someone they actually know there’s a better chance that your music will get heard.

2. Independent Music Blogs
There are literally thousands of music blog sites out there, that I’m sure would be more than happy to promote your music in exchange for you promoting their site. Do a Google search of say “indie music blog” click on all the credible links that pop up and find their contact information. If they don’t happen to have a dedicated music submission form make sure you send them an initial email introducing yourself & ask how to get your music on their site.

3. Flyers
When you walk around your city I’m sure you notice all the concert flyers posted on poles, bus stops, in coffee shops, clothing stores and anywhere else you can think of. Well why not get flyers made promoting your new release and post them up around the city as if it’s the biggest thing to hit the town? If they stay up long enough and are visually appealing people will get to asking, “Who the F%^& is [Enter Band Name Here]”. People won’t listen to your music if they don’t even know it exists…

4. Stickers
Who doesn’t love an awesome sticker?! In fact our Sales Manager is a sticker Hoarder! [view photo]. Before you go about getting stickers made, make sure you have an awesome logo designed first. People will be much more willing to hold onto a sticker than anything else. Also, If you’re wondering who to have print your stickers, check out this company: InkMonstr.com

5. Shows
What better place to find music lovers to market your music to than at a concert??? Start contacting the promoters and music venues in your city and find out what you need to do in order to get added to the ticket. In my opinion, if you’re not booked as the headliner you should be asking for nada, except for the opportunity. You’ll have 30+ minutes to put on a killer show and show the 100+ people in the audience why your band deserves their ears. If you’re as good as you think you are, you’ll leave with some new loyal fans who can find all your music via the website on the stickers you gave them or the CD you sold them after the show *hint hint*.

6. Features
For the MC’s and Singers out there, if you’re good then people will surely ask who you are when they hear you on their friend’s new song. It’s FREE promotion! Consider all the mainstream artists you hear all over the radio on other people’s songs, but have yet to release a new project. Doing features is an easy way to stay relevant, as well as grow your fan-base.

7. YouTube
YouTube is our generation’s A&R. GhostTown, Justin Beiber, Iggy Azzaela, and who knows how many others have and will gain success because of YouTube. Singing a cover to a popular song alone and uploading it to YouTube will likely garnish you one-thousand or more views. If you Rap, find the hottest rapper out right now, memorize the lyrics to one of his most popular songs, Rap it on video and then upload it to YouTube. If you’ve never done it before, you cannot say, “It doesn’t work” or that it doesn’t achieve what you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re ambitious enough to try it out, please don’t make the mistake of forgetting to add links to your personal music and social media pages in the video description.

8. Business Cards
You’re in the music business right?

9. Website
Unfortunately a Facebook page is Not your website. Facebook IS a website but it is not your website (it’s Zuckerberg’s). So find a cool domain name like www.MeganBurtt.com and turn it into something you’re proud of. Not to mention, when someone Googles your band name, your website will usually be at the top of the list.

10. Twitter
Twitter is a very powerful tool for any musician. When you can grasp the concept that almost everyone and anyone in the world is just a tweet away, you’ll understand the true power of Twitter. Don’t make the mistake that so many rookie artists make of tweeting random people links to their music. How annoying is that? Instead use Twitter to make friends. People like conversation, but more importantly people like ATTENTION. So give people what they want, and they’ll give you what you want – their Attention right?

11. Music Publisher
I’m sure you’ve been watching your favorite TV show and just so happen to notice that awesome song playing in the background, right? Well, if it wasn’t for that band’s music publisher you might have never heard it. Music publishers make money only when you make money so they have every reason to promote your music to the fullest extent and utilize every connection they have to get it featured in a TV show, Commercial, or Video Game. In case you’re wondering how music publishing works, check out our Q&A with Denver based music publishing company Lyric House.

12. Giveaways
Now who doesn’t love free S$%t?? For a giveaway you can utilize Facebook or Twitter and post a photo or a song. Let people know that you’ll be selecting one of the people who share it to win a  T-shirt, signed copy of your album, a free ticket to your show, or whatever else you can think of. There’s multiple ways to conduct a giveaway, and some will garner better results than others, so get creative.

Titwrench Music and Art Fest 2013 Turns Five

Stepping into our fifth year as a festival, Titwrench 2013 continues in the spirit for which it first began back in 2009: A multi-day  exploration of music, art and performance with an emphasis on all ages, inclusive environment for artists and audience to come together.

As a completely DIY fest, Titwrench aims to highlight female and female-identified performers pushing the boundaries of genre and form, while bringing the surrounding community into the fold with interactive workshops and productions. Generally a participant in the onslaught of summer festivals, this year, we’ve brought the fest into the fall, with the 2013 edition going down this September 5th, 6th, and 7th.

In our five year existence, Titwrench has called many great venues across the city home. For 2013, we will be taking over Glob for all three days once again. A well-known DIY spot at 3551 Brighton Boulevard in the burgeoning River North Art District, Glob has hosted  shows like No Age, Monotonix, The Pirate Signal, Japanther, and dozens more in its almost-decade of existence. It has also been a launch pad for Titwrench, by being the home of our pre-fest dance parties, a fundraising platform integral to raising the money needed to put on a DIY festival of this size and scope.

For this 2013 edition of Titwrench, we are stoked to present a strong line-up of  local and national musicians, performance artists, poets, visual artists and DJs. From electronic virtuosos to MCs and modern dancers, Titwrench welcomes outsiders in, creating a community built on empowered people.

Air Dubai: Interview

by Ava Daniels

Popular local Denver band Air Dubai is moving up in the world with the start of more tours, music, and a signing with Hopeless Records. The band consists of Julian Thomas, Jon Shockness, Lawrence Grivich, Nick Spreigl, Micheal Ray, and Tailor Tait. Guitarist Lawrence Grivich and singer John Shockness go in depth with news about their newfound success and life on the road:

So you guys just finished up the Journeys Noise Tour, are starting another tour with Bad Rabbits, and are doing Vans Warped Tour in the UK! Not to mention you guys just signed with Hopeless Records and released some new music. How does all this success feel for each of you?

Jon Shockness (JS): For me it feels like we’re just getting started. We’re planning a lot of cool things and it’s nice to finally feel like we’re setting up a platform to create from

As I mentioned earlier, you guys are touring a lot. How do you all like life on the road, and what have been your favorite cities/crowds/venues?

JS: Life on the road is fun. I think we’re able to learn a lot about ourselves as a band which is great and also meet some amazing new people. The flightcrew is growing…

What is one thing each of you can’t live without while on tour?

JS: Headphones

Have there been any crazy incidents while on the Journeys Noise Tour?

JS – About an hour out from our show in Buffalo, NY our van stopped on the side of the road. We called the tow truck guy and let him know our soundcheck was in like 30 minutes, so he let us ride inside the van on top of the tow truck to the venue where we hopped out with 10 minutes ’till doors. He basically saved the show for us.

During your tour, you guys stopped in Canada! What was that like for you all? Was it anyone’s first time out of the country?

JS: Canada was awesome! We got to see Toronto for a little bit and eat some good food while we were there.

What is one thing each of you hope to be remembered for?

JS: When this is all said and done I hope people will know that we did this because we love music. “Pop” has such negative connotations nowadays, but we aim to make something that is relatable to people everywhere. Our band is so diverse in itself and we want to carry that out to our fans. Everyone is welcome, we all can have a good time.

How exactly did you all meet and how did Air Dubai form? What is the meaning/reasoning behind naming your group Air Dubai?

Lawrence Grivich (LG): Air Dubai was actually an old navy vessel that sunk to the very bottom of the Mariana’s Trench. To this day it stands as our testament to have courage but never get lost in ourselves.

What is one thing each of you miss while you’re away on tour?

JS: Definitely just having time at home. Friends, family, pets.

What is one venue you all hope to play one day?

JS: 02 Theater in London would be dope.

I see lots of descriptions of your sound and musical influences on the Internet. What would you guys say your sound is, and could you list some influences?

LG: It’s a combination of all our individual guilty pleasures (Biebs, R. Kelly) as well as artists we all can get behind (Justin Timberlake, Phoenix, Kendrick, Miguel, etc.)

Do any of you have nicknames or stage names? If so, what and why? If not, what name would you give yourself, and why?

LG: We have tons of nicknames within the band, whats the fun in calling someone the same thing every day for as many days as we are in each other’s company? We call Taylor something different all the time, like Towel or Taste. We actually don’t find the need to develop stage personas, though.

Is there another Denver group that you all look up to or respect a lot? Or a Denver band you all are friends with?

JS: My Body Sings Electric, The Epilogues, In The Whale. All great guys.

How did each of you get into music?

LG – Originally as a creative release. Secondly to have something to fight about.

Air Dubai is on tour, so head to their website for dates and more information on the band:

Kid Vegas: Fuego (Single Review)

“Taking Her Clothes Off While She Dancing On The Table; She Fuego!”

I have no idea what the hell “Fuego” is or what it means, but one thing for sure is it makes for a superb song which hypnotised my ear drums and left me desperate to replay due to its addictive instrumental and captivating chorus. Despite the fact I’ve been covering the MileHi states Hip Hop scene for over six month now, I have not heard a rapper as commercial from Colorado as the radio-ready Kid Vegas. Despite mainstream music currently connoting that the artists on the radio aren’t as talented as those underground, it is arguable that Kid Vegas is as talented as the top-tier emcees from Colorado. The only thing is he is talented at something, many Hip Hop heads ridiculously refuse to respect.

Vegas has a knack for creating club-hop tracks, and they’re enjoyable and entertaining from  remixing “FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt” to “Addicted 2 Tha Lif3” which samples “Walking On A Dream” – A track which is a spark of genius for a Hip Hop remix hook. Despite club-hop being synonymous with being monotonous, Vegas manages to keep me paying thorough attention by remaining versatile. One song the Denver rapper is sounding similar to Squizzy Gang’s L Keys, the next I’m noticing shades of Lil Wayne.  “Fuego” itself is pretty similar to Gabriel Alexander’s “Electric City” mixtape verses with an equally brilliant beat to Bbeck’s production.

Whatever “Fuego” is, I’m disappointed I haven’t been introduced to the song before. Denver’s clubs should be playing this Kid Vegas track. He may not be the best rapper, or the most intelligent lyricist, but Vegas is a very entertaining artist and one I will be eager to hear from again. You can listen to Kid Vegas via his SoundCloud (Click Here) and I highly recommend “Elope” if you’re not a big fan of Club-Hop. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
